SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS:

I hope you are all enjoying your summer, hot as it has been.  Some of you have asked about a Summer Sunday School for the children.  I have talked with some of the teachers and staff about doing someting for the children during the summer.  While it is not possible to have something during the week, it does not mean that something cannot be done on a Sunday.  We have come up with a program that would take place on Aug. 1 and Aug.8.  The sessions will address the two major feasts that fall in August, our parish feast of Transfiguration, August 6, and the feast of the Dormition, August 15.  Also, we would learn how to make Holy Qurban and why it is a priviledge to be able to offer the Qurban.  And, we would also learn to make the Memorial Wheat and have a Memorial Service.  Also, the children would make an icon during the sessions.

BUT, we need to know if you are interested.  The sessions will take place after the Liturgy and would be finished by 3:30 or earlier.  Lunch will be provided.  This will be open to all students in First Grade thru Twelve.  The classes will be divided according to grade.

In order to prepare for the sessions we need to know how many children will be participating.  I will need to get a committment from you by July 23rd.  If there are not enough children registered, the sessions will be canceled.  It you would like to have your child participate but cannot be there both Sundays, we can work with that.  But we need to know.

If you have any questions, please contact me - either by email  kresna1@aol.com  or by telephone  410-788-3663.

Remember, the deadline is August 23.

Thanks for your support in what we try to do for your children.

Sunday school resumes on Sunday, September 19, 2010.

Please bring in non perishable food donations as the youth/ Sunday school will continue to deliver food to the shelters and homes in need in the Washington Metropolitan area.  Please remember the ongoing Food Drive and Can Tabs for Charity sponsored by the Sunday school and Youth Group.

The hot summer weather is here…

please dress modestly!

We have an announcement to make about the Youth Group.  We have been blessed to have had Anne and Phil Benedicto as Youth Group Advisors for over 10 years.  We give thanks to God for giving us such wonderful advisors. If you ask any of the teens that have been a part of the Youth Group while they were advisors, they will tell you how much they love Anne and Phil and are grateful to have been a part of the group under their tenure.  We will miss you but know we will be seeing you every week because you are Sunday school teachers and as much as we love you, we know you love us too.  Thanks Anne and Phil.

And God continues to bless us and our efforts.  Sylvia and Sam Hondros have graciously agreed to be the new advisors of the Youth Group.  Sylvia and Sam already know the teens and have volunteered their time and energy in many of the Sunday school and Youth Group activities.  They love working and being with the teens and look forward to being advisors.  We are excited to welcome Sylvia and Sam and promise to do our best to make you happy that you said yes to be our advisors.

This great news requires a celebration.  And celebrate, we will.  There is going to be a reunion cookout for all of the current Youth Group members, new members, and all the past members that were a part of the group while Anne and Phil were advisors.  We will have a chance to thank Anne and Phil and to welcome Sam and Sylvia.  The cookout will take place July 25th after the Divine Liturgy on the church grounds.  We hope that our college students will still be home.  Please help us spread the word.  We want you there.
